Work-life-balance

Thinking about Work-Life Balance (*)

I would argue that the notion work-life-balance hinges on assumptions:

  • First: I assume that, where life carries higher weight,
work seems to get a lot of leverage
  • Second: I assume that we do not control all events in life,
just like work can be unpredictable
  • Thirdly:  I assume some form of movement back and forth between work and life – there are things we bring to work, and things we take back home (things other than salary and expectations)

Maybe the difference between balance and imbalance lies in that movement?

Maybe we have more of a say in things transfered from one end to the other (and back)
than control over the events happening at either end?
